General Motors’ second joint venture in China launched the all-new Wuling Air EV to expand its model portfolio as the fourth all-electric minicar for the Chinese market, alongside the best-selling Wuling MINI EV, the Wuling Nano EV and the Baojun KiWi EV, with different approaches in this popular vehicle segment. In fact, the Air EV is the first electric car developed from scratch with Wuling’s new look and global design language.
As such, the all-new Wuling Air EV positions itself above the MINI EV and Nano EV in the brand’s model range, but below the all-new MINI EV Cabrio that is currently the top model in the Wuling electric lineup. In addition to launching the latest design language for next-generation electric vehicles, the Air EV stands out as the family’s most advanced, powerful and technological model.
In China, the all-new Wuling Air EV range will consist of four variants in two different body styles, a short version with just two seats and a longer-wheelbase version with four seats. The four-seat Air EV’s body measures 117 inches long, 59.3 inches wide and 64.2 inches tall mounted on a 79.1-inch wheelbase. Measurements for the short two-seat version have not yet been announced.
Mechanically, the uplevel versions of the Wuling Air EV are equipped with a new electric motor that develops 50 kW or 67 horsepower, and 150 Nm or 110.6 pound-feet of torque – making it the most powerful minicar offered by the brand so far. In addition, the battery pack allows for a range of 300 km or 186 miles on a single charge, and DC fast charging is capable of charging it from 30 to 80 percent within 45 minutes.
