The passenger area of Volkswagen’s first-ever all-electric SUV is an upscale and airy atmosphere that’s loaded with all sorts of attention to detail.
Starting with the driver’s side, a 5.3-inch ID.Cockpit digital display is part of the steering column so it’s always in perfect view, and replaces the traditional instrument cluster. A large rocker switch – reminiscent of the classic steering column-mounted shifter – offers easy gear selection simply by extending your fingers while gripping the steering wheel.
In the center of the floating dashboard is a massive 12-inch touch infotainment display that comes standard with navigation, telematics, entertainment, and more. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration is supported on all models of the ID.4 so you can stay connected to your favorite apps and music.
And just about everything inside the ID.4 is controlled by touch or your voice – there are very few physical buttons. You can also take advantage of “Hello ID”, which is a natural voice command system built into every ID.4. Speak comfortably as you would to a friend, and the vehicle will carry out most common requests. For example, saying “Hello ID, I’m cold” will result in ID.4 turning up the heat on your behalf.
Another really cool and futuristic feature of the interior is the ID. Light. It’s an intuitive light bar that spans the dashboard and provides visual and acoustic cues to communicate details like incoming calls, brake warnings, charge status, and more.
